"This is one of the most beautiful addresses in Lapland to book for a special occasion, in the very chic category. You can sleep on the river Luleå in the Quiet and Peace "hotel" run by Björn, the friendly owner. Equipped with a pontoon, a comfortable bed, a dry toilet and a bay window, these little houseboats move on the water to give you a Lappish dinner in the middle of a sumptuous nowhere. The P&Q has to be earned: it's a ten-minute walk through the forest (luggage not recommended) to get to your moving room. After a good meal, you can spend the night lulled by the lapping of the water under the amused gaze of the royal star.

"...Our season for Nordic ice skating is very short in Jokkmokk. It’s the short period when the ice is thick (safe) enough and before the snow comes. Some years we do not get to take on our ice skates at all because we don’t get any ice-skating season at all because the snow arrives before the ice is thick enough. But, 2020 was a great year for Nordic ice skating in Jokkmokk..."

There are regions of the world whose name makes you dream. Lapland is one of them, with its immense skies, its rivers and lakes galore, its pastoral and spectacular landscapes, not forgetting the royal sun that never sets in summer. From Luleå to Jokkmokk, we set off in search of the famous midnight sun, testing it out along the way with a host of activities on land, water and in the air. Because Lapland is also a land of the elements, surrounded by majestic nature at the very tip of Europe.

.

As well as the heralded peace and quiet, the owners promise their guests the best chance in all of Europe of seeing the northern lights: 99 per cent of those staying for seven nights will get to see the show – the Flying Glass Room (€201,000/HK$1.7 million a night) – is lifted by helicopter to a remote spot free from light and noise pollution to which the guests are also flown, along with chefs and other staff.
